Drogheda United travel to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium on Friday to face Derry City

Thursday 10th April 2025, 13:32 pm

The Boynesiders come into this game following a 2-0 win at home to Waterford in Sullivan & Lambe Park last week.

Drogheda took the lead just before half-time when a brave header from Ryan Brennan sent the ball back into the box, the ball dropped for Warren Davis who fired into the bottom corner for his third goal in four games.

The lead was doubled in the 68th minute by recently named SSE Airtricity / Soccer Writers Ireland March Player of the Month, Darragh Markey, as his cross into the box towards Conor Keeley and James Bolger evaded everyone and beat McMullan in the Waterford goal.

Ryan Brennan almost made it 3-0 just two minutes later but saw his stunning effort from distance crash back off the bar.

In team news ahead of the trip to Derry, defender Elicha Ahui and forwards Josh Thomas and Douglas James-Taylor remain sidelined through injury. Defender Conor Kane is doubtful for the fixture after a knock picked up against Waterford last week.

Drogheda and Derry played five times last season, with the most recent meeting coming in November as Drogheda won 2-0 to lift the 2025 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup.

The league games saw Derry win both games at the Brandywell (2-1 in February, 5-1 in June) while the games in Drogheda saw a 2-2 draw in April, and a 2-1 win for Kevin Doherty’s side in September.
