NAVAN ROAD USERS PLAYING ‘RUSSIAN ROULETTE’ AT DANGEROUS JUNCTION-Emer Tóibín

How many more collisions will it take before action is taken?....Cllr Tóibín
The lives of Navan Road users are being dangerously compromised on a notorious junction by the continuing lack of action on safety measures.
Aontú Cllr Emer Tóibín says yet another recent road collision at the junction near Teach na Teamhrach on the Trim Road in Navan is another stark reminder of the dangers motorists, cyclists and pedestrians face at this long-problematic crossroads.
“I can’t actually believe that I have to bring this issue up again. We’re talking here about road users whose safety is in real danger as they try to navigate this deadly junction. For years, locals have navigated this busy junction by means of an ad hocwink and a nod— an unofficial and unsafe system that continues to put lives at risk. I, along with other councillors, have raised serious concerns about this junction time and time again.
The council is fully aware of the ongoing dangers, and yet here we are again, witnessing more incidents and more frustration.Under the now-abandoned Pathfinder scheme, there was a clear commitment to finally tackle this issue and deliver long-overdue safety improvements. That plan would have made a real difference. Its cancellation is a blow to public confidence and a huge disappointment for everyone who uses this route daily.
So, I ask:when will this “wink and nod” junction finally receive the technical, structural and safety-focused overhaul it so desperately needs?
We need answers, and more importantly, we need delivery — not delay. The safety of our community must come first, and the Council has an absolute duty of care to do all it can to protect the lives of road users.
Anything less is a dereliction of duty”.
