Johnny Guirke, Sinn Féin's Spokesperson on Workers’ Rights, has today praised the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) for its recent efforts in protecting workers’ rights, following the release of its annual report. The report revealed that last year, the WRC recovered €2.1 million in unpaid wages after conducting 5,156 inspections across workplaces nationwide.
“Every worker deserves to be paid fairly for their work,” said Deputy Guirke. “The WRC’s work in recovering over €2 million in unpaid wages is a clear sign that enforcement of workers’ rights is essential. No one should be left out or shortchanged in their employment rights.”
Deputy Guirke emphasized the importance of continued vigilance and enforcement: “These figures show that when the WRC steps in, they make a real difference. We must ensure that all workers feel protected and confident in their rights.
Deputy Guirke called for ongoing support for workers’ rights initiatives: “Wbin Sinn Féin will continue to advocate for stronger protections and enforcement mechanisms to ensure everyone gets the wages they’ve earned, without fear or delay.”
