In a strong rebuke of the government’s recent road funding announcement, TDs Johnny Guirke and Darren O'Rourke have called for immediate additional financial support to address the critical state of roads across County Meath. The TDs emphasized that Meath has some of the worst roads in the country, and the current allocation falls drastically short of what is needed.

Darren O'Rourke stated, “With a €22 billion government budget surplus, it is utterly unacceptable that Meath is receiving little more than €1 million increase for road funding—almost half of which is for new speed signs. This allocation is not only inadequate but indicative of a government that is blind to the pressing infrastructure issues we face. It’s clear that government TDs from Meath are either out of touch or unwilling to acknowledge the deteriorating state of our roads.”

Johnny Guirke added, “Ironically, it was Eamon Ryan's own government partners who labelled him as ‘anti-roads.’ However, their actions demonstrate that they are no better. The lack of significant investment in our roads infrastructure reflects a broader neglect that is simply unacceptable. We need central government to step up and provide the necessary funding to ensure that the roads in Meath are safe and serviceable and up to a high standard.”

Both TDs are urging the government to take immediate action to rectify this situation. “The people of Meath deserve roads that are not only functional but can support their daily lives without having to worry about damaging their vehicles. We will continue to fight for an increased budget until we see the investment needed to bring our roads up to standard,” O'Rourke concluded.

In conclusion, TD Johnny Guirke highlighted the specific challenges faced by North Meath, emphasizing that roads in the region are severely underfunded by the Central Government. He pointed out that Meath County Council is not receiving adequate financial support to elevate the roads to a high standard. "It's imperative that we secure the funding necessary to ensure that all areas of Meath have safe and reliable roads," Guirke stated.
