Drogheda United face Shamrock Rovers at Sullivan & Lambe Park on Friday evening in the final game before the international break

The Boynesiders come into this game following back to back 1-0 away wins in Dublin last week against Bohemians and Shelbourne.

Thomas Oluwa’s first league goal for the club gave Kevin Doherty’s side all three points from Dalymount Park before the trip to Tolka Park four days later.

Drogheda hit the front just four minutes into the game against Shelbourne, in stunning fashion. Warren Davis pressed, won the ball off Evan Caffrey, put the ball through the legs of Harry Wood and fired into the top corner.

Thomas Oluwa had two chances to double the lead in the first half, but both efforts were saved by Kearns. Ryan Brennan cleared a Kerr McInroy effort off the line in the first half while Luke Dennison made a superb save to deny Ellis Chapman on the hour mark.

Drogheda saw out the victory, to maintain an unbeaten start to the season, and earn a fourth clean sheet in five games.

Goalkeeper Luke Dennison spoke about the start to the season ahead of the game against Shamrock Rovers.

“Clean sheets are not just to do with the goalkeeper. They wouldn’t happen without the 10 players in front of me, without them it’s impossible to keep a clean sheet.

“The lads have been so good, it’s so pleasing to watch, week in week out for 90 minutes each game they don’t give away anything silly or sloppy, and if it does happen then I have to be there to do my job, so I’m delighted so far with that.

“Every game is really hard this season. Rovers coming into town will be no different, we will study them, prepare, have a game plan and try our best to execute that and pick up another three points,” Dennison said.

Shamrock Rovers won three of the four meetings between the sides last season (4-0, 2-0, 1-0) while the other meeting, in Tallaght in August, ended 1-1.

In team news, defenders James Bolger and Elicha Ahui, midfielder Paul Doyle and forwards Douglas James-Taylor and Josh Thomas are all ruled out through injury.
