Drogheda native Darius Kierans has step down from his role as Glebe North manager.

The Former Drogheda United and Dundalk manager was in charge of the Balbriggan side for three and a half seasons.

In that time the club won two promotions and earlier this year they were victorious in the FAI Intermediate Cup Final.  An extra-time penalty from Reece Weldon secured the FAI Intermediate Cup for the first time in Glebe North’s 79-year history as the North Dublin side defeated Ringmahon Rangers 3-2 in a pulsating cup final in Drogheda.

The announcement was made by Glebe North Football Club on their social media page.

They said the following:

A message from the manager Darius Kierans:

“It’s with great sadness that into my 4th season with Glebe north I’ve decided to part ways with the club. As my family has dealt with a lot of tragedy with the passing of my brothers Fabian in 2017 and Derek in June 2023 and that along with Damien in 2001 has put a lot on all of us.”

“My wife Lisa and our 4 kids have supported me in my time with Glebe and it’s time I  put more time in to them all. I’ve had a wonderful 3 and a half seasons had Glebe north and met some fantastic people. We have had great success with 2 promotions and an FAI intermediate cup success last year.”

“The support we received from the people of balbriggan has been incredible. The community spirit in balbriggan is second to none. Balbriggan has been always been a great breeding ground for footballers but I really believe that is growing and becoming stronger with Glebe north at the core and the great work be done by Roberto and all the underage coaches.”

“I would like to thank Pat Campbell, Junior "Hugh" Reilly, Ben Foley for their help and support over my time in the club along with the rest of the committee and the women’s committee who also support us to no end.”

“I’d like to thank all the players past and present who have played for me in the green jersey.”

“Last and the most important I’d like to thank my staff, Danny Coyle, Barry Kelly, Gary mc Cormack and Anto mc Guinness. And also, Peter Smith, Killian Brennan and Eric Foley from previous seasons. Incredible people who have been a massive part of the last couple of years through thick and thin.”

“Danny, Barry and Gary are going continue with the team for the rest of the season and although there has been a big turnover of players from last season there is a young hungry bunch who can no doubt kick on in the new year.”

“For me it’s some time out of football and spend more time with my family. Looking forward to supporting Glebe and lads from the far side of the railing.”

“Thank you and god bless”
