described as ‘brilliant’, ‘amazing’, ‘top-class’. These accolades indeed fit well as MacDara
has earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s outstanding fiddle players. His playing style is
highly individual, personal and deeply rooted in the pure tradition. What is most striking is
how his personality and flair for music come through with a driving rhythm and pulse that is
delivered by a powerful fluid bow hand.

Meath artist Fiona McKenna captures the essence and spirit of beautiful, joy-filled moments.
5th September 2024, 16:00 pm
The latest exhibition of new works by Meath artist Fiona McKenna, entitled “Echoes of the Land”, takes us on a journey through county Meath and the Irish countryside. For Fiona, places are important, as they relate to memories, people, stories and moments from our past. In capturing these special places - where memories are made, and moments are cherished, she aims to help the viewer reconnect with their own special memories.
Originally from county Tyrone, Fiona has been living in Meath for 10 years. Growing up in the Irish countryside, Fiona is drawn to the freedom of wide-open spaces and the peacefulness and tranquillity of nature. Her childhood home was filled with traditional Irish music, a love of country life, and an appreciation for practical, hands-on making. In this nurturing atmosphere, creativity was encouraged, leading to many early memories of drawing and painting.
While primarily a self-taught artist, Fiona has refined her skills over many years, completing a series of part-time courses at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. Embracing a journey of personal discovery and creativity has allowed her unique and authentic artistic voice to emerge.
Fiona has a passion for storytelling through art while capturing the beauty and essence of Ireland. Much of her inspiration comes from a deep connection to the countryside and coastline of home. Her contemporary artworks are full of energy, joy and atmosphere.
She creates expressive paintings with thick, impasto oil paint to emulate the sense of belonging felt in familiar surroundings. This thick oil paint and rich textures create a sensory experience, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty of the magical Irish landscape.
Presented by Meath County Council Arts Office in association with Culture Night (Fri, 20thSept), the exhibition, featuring 17vibrant and uplifting landscape paintings is a celebration of colour and nature andwill be on display at Toradh Gallery 2, Kells Courthouse and Tourism Cultural Hub fromSeptember 9th– October 31st, 2024.

Belly laughs all around at the Laughter Lounge
When it comes to socialising with friends and family, pubs and restaurants seem to be obvious locations to enjoy a night out.
If you are looking for a slightly different night out, we have just the ticket for you.
The Laughter Lounge in the heart of Dublin city centre is located just off O’Connell Street on Eden Quay. The Comedy club has plenty to offer if you are looking to celebrate a birthday or special occasion with family and friends.
Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8.30pm sharp. There is an incentive to arrive early as a complimentary free beer or wine is offered to all those who arrive before 7.30pm. There is an extensive drinks menu offering an excellent variety of beers cocktails and non-alcoholic beers. If you are feeling peckish, pizzas and nachos are on the menu to nibble on as you enjoy the show.
The venue provides table service. To order food and drink you must scan the QR code on your table and you order from there. Each table seats four, so if you are a going as a couple you could end up sitting next to complete strangers, so bear that in mind.
Three comedians perform on the night plus the MC who is also a Comedian. The comedians themselves have all different styles of comedy. The highlight of the night had to be the headliner, which was Jack wise, who is a multi-award winning Magician, Comedian and Hilarious Ventriloquist.
Jack had the crowd in awe with magic tricks, mindreading and brilliant sense of humour.
Being a live show, crowd engagement is a key ingredient for a brilliant night. Anyone celebrating a birthday was asked to stand up and the MC of the night would proceed to embarrass the poor unfortunate souls who stood up. If you are sitting at the front, be prepared to be involved in the show as all of the comedians pick on the front row audience!
Jamie if you are out there? Happy Birthday!!!
Not everything goes the plan on the night, as this reporter seen first hand when headliner Jack Wise picked on a front row audience member. The guest was none to happy with the comedian and a few moments later he was up on stage with the magician to shock of the Audience. Wise handled the situation very well and the disgruntled guest was removed off stage by security. It was clear that he had one to many drinks on the night.
Overall, it was a brilliant night and well worth the entrance fee.
So, if you are looking for a slightly different night out give the laughter lounge a try. You won’t be disappointed.
