Trains Every 30 Mins from Greystones on Weekends & Bank Holidays "Will Be Considered" & "Has Merit" (NTA) - Cllr Stephen Stokes

Cllr Stephen Stokes has welcomed the positive response from the National Transport Authority to his Greystones Municipal District motion seeking trains every 30 mins to/from Greystones, on weekends and bank holidays. They will consider it at the next timetable update. Currently weekday services are every 30 minutes from Greystones, while Saturday services are once an hour. Should the NTA & Irish Rail approve the increase, it would match the weekday services.
However the NTA outlined some challenges. They advised that: "the introduction of additional DART services will be subject to the availability of drivers and PSO funding and be considered amongst a range of other priorities, including the provision of additional capacity on existing services where required."
Cllr Stokes highlighted the significant need for improved services in County Wicklow. Cllr Stokes stated: "Greystones and the wider North Wicklow area have had significant population growth in recent years. Our public transport services need to keep pace with that growth. This is especially important if we want to encourage more public transport use and less dependency on private vehicles."
He also pointed out that more options are needed at weekends. Cllr Stephen Stokes added: "While weekday commuting is important, weekends and bank holidays are increasingly busy times for families, workers, tourists and those who rely on public transport to access amenities, employment and social activities."
Cllr Stokes thanked his fellow Councillors in the Greystones Municipal District colleagues for their support of the motion. He concluded: "It is important that we work together for positive change. They also bring forward a range of important motions and proposals, which I am happy to support."
