
Kyran Durnin Would Have Been 10 Years Old This Week

kyran Durin, the missing boy, who now is presume dead and was last seen alive nearly 4 years ago, would have been 10 years old this Friday 15th May.
In September 2024, it would be the first time the nation would hear about "the missing boy" from a Missing Persons Appeal, which included Kyran Durnin, (8 Years) and his mam
Dayla Durnin (24 Years) from Drogheda, Co. Louth on the 30th August 2024.
Back in October 2024, Gardai upgraded the disappearance of Kyran to a murder investigation and
Gardai are no nearer to finding his body since he vanished off the face of the earth in late June 2022.
The last confirmed sighting of Kyran Durnin was back in June 2022, when his mother reported him ill with Covid to the school he was attending. Kyran never finished the year in St Nicholas's Monastery National School. His mam Dayla told the school that they would be moving to Northern-Ireland, and he would be attending school there.
Here is timeline of events in relation to the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin:
29th August 2024: It is believed that Dayla and her three children stayed overnight in Dayla’s mother house.
30th August 2024: Dayla and Kyran are reported missing by Rhonda Byrne Tyson, who is Dayla’s mother and Kyran’s grandmother. According to Rhonda, she claimed that Dayla and her three children stayed overnight at Rhonda’s home on Hand Street, Drogheda on Thursday 29th August, but were gone when Rhonda got up the following morning Friday August 30th, 2024.
Rhonda also reported her concerns to Tusla, who then advised her to contact the gardai.
4th September 2024: Is the first time he we hear about a missing mother and son from Drogheda. Gardai issues a Missing Persons Appeal for Dayla Durnin (24 Years) and Kyran Durnin, (8 Years), Drogheda, Co. Louth, 30th August 2024.
Late September: Dayla Durin is located safe and well in the UK, but no sign of Kyran.
16th October 2024: Gardai upgrades the disappearance of Kyran to a murder investigation.
22nd October 2024: Gardai search a house in Dundalk and appeal for any information on the disappearance of Kyran. The purpose of the search is to discover any evidence that might help the whereabouts of Kyran.
Later that day, Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern released the following statement:
"Last Wednesday, 16th October 2024 An Garda Síochána issued a public appeal for information on the disappearance of Kyran Durnin, who would now be 8 years old and is missing, presumed dead.
“Yesterday, Monday 21st October 2024, acting under a Search Warrant, Gardaí investigating the disappearance of Kyran Durnin took possession of a private house on Emer Terrace, Dundalk.
“Commencing today, that house will be searched and be subject of technical and forensic examinations, as will the garden and adjoining open ground to that house.
“The purpose of these searches are to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyran’s current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.
“The house is known to have been Kyran’s family home for a period of years up to May 2024.
“I must emphasise that the current tenants of this house are not connected in anyway with Kyran or his disappearance.
“An Garda Síochána can confirm that Kyran was a student in a local national school, here in Dundalk, up to approximately the end of the 2021/ 2022 primary school year.
“Kyran was reported missing, along with his mother, to An Garda Síochána on the 30th August 2024, and as having been last seen on or about the 28th August 2024.
“An Garda Síochána has identified the whereabouts of Kyran’s mother.
“Despite extensive enquiries carried out by Gardaí to date, An Garda Síochána have been unable to either locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence that he is currently alive.
“Following enquiries to date Investigating Gardaí now believe that Kyran is missing, presumed dead.
“A murder investigation has been commenced, under the direction of a Senior Investigation Officer (SIO) based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.
“An Garda Síochána is liaising closely with other state agencies, including TUSLA, who are co-operating and assisting fully with this murder investigation.
“I want to thank members of the public who have contacted the Garda investigation team to date.
“An Garda Síochána s sole focus and primary concern, and that of the investigation team is Kyran.
“We want to discover where Kyran is.
“We want to discover what has happened to Kyran.
“I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact investigating Gardaí.
“Do not rule out any information that you may have.
“Please do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

24th October 2024: Gardai complete searches on private property and adjourning open lands at Emer Terrace, Dundalk. Gardai once again appeal to the public for information.
10th December 2024: Gardai arrest a female on suspicion of murder.
11th December 2024: The female arrest on suspicion of murder is released without charge.
Later that evening, BBC Spotlight air Kyran: The Lost Boy. Mandy McAuley investigates the disappearance that no one noticed.
12th December 2024: A male is arrested on suspicion of murder. Gardai also commence two searches at two locations of domestic houses in Drogheda.
Later that day, Gardai complete the search of the one of the properties. The purpose of the search to provide information as to kyrans whereabouts, or what has happened to kyran.
13th December 2024: The male arrested on suspicion of murder is released without charge and the search on the second property is completed.
17th December 2024: Confirmation that Anthony Maguire was the male arrested on suspicion of murder and released without charge. Maguire was later found dead and gardai and it is believed he took his own life.
18th December 2024: It is reported that notes were found in the house Anthony Maguire was found dead in. But no evidential information in the investigation was received.
19th December 2024: Following the arrests of the two individuals, Gardai appeal to the public for information.
26th February 2025: Gardai commence a search of a property in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
28th February 2025: Gardai complete searches of the private property in Drogheda. Gardai release the following statement:
“Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin (6 years) have today, Wednesday 26th February 2025 commenced a search of a domestic residence in Drogheda.
“The house will be subject of technical and forensic examinations.
“The purpose of the search is to discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyrans’ current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran.
“Investigating Gardaí have to date received extensive support from the public. Despite the public support and extensive and ongoing enquiries carried out by Gardaí to date, An Garda Síochána have been unable to locate Kyran. Kyran would now be 8 years old.
“An Garda Síochána is aware of ongoing extensive public commentary on this investigation, including speculation, rumours and theories on what may have happened to Kyran, most of which is inaccurate and misinformed. Such ill-informed public commentary is not only disruptive to the Garda investigations but also adds to the trauma experienced by victims families.
“An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

“The investigation is ongoing.”
15th May 2025: Kyran should be celebrating his 9th birthday. Kyran’s family and friends held a vigil on West Street in Drogheda in his honour.
20th June 2025: Its three years to the day that Kyran was last seen alive at his primary School in Dundalk, Louth.
28th August 2025: Gardai launch their latest appeal for information
29th August 2025: Unrelated to the investigation of Kyran, news breaks of another missing boy who is believed to missing for a number of years and presumed day. The missing boy would now seven years old. This comes almost one year to the day the Kyran was reported missing.
1st September 2025: Local people gathered in Dundalk’s town centre on Saturday evening to remember little Kyran Durnin, who was reported missing a year ago.
This Friday 15th May 2026, Kyran should have been celebrating his 10th Birthday.
